Overview

Translator Series ("we", "us", the "platform") operates translatorseries.com and related subdomains. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We work toward compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and COPPA, and we honor the rights listed below.

We do not sell your personal information. We run our own ad system, so we do not load Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or third-party tracking scripts.

Data We Collect

Account information

  • Email address
  • Username
  • Birth year (used to verify you are 13 or older)
  • Hashed password (we never see your plain-text password)

Activity data

  • Pages viewed on the platform
  • Listings you create in the gear marketplace
  • Hunts, calls, and catches you log
  • Leaderboard scores and achievements
  • Your call scores and practice progress (see “Your Calls, Scores and Recordings” below)

Location

  • Only collected if your browser grants permission
  • Used to show events near you and relevant local ads

Ad interactions

  • Impressions (which ad slots loaded a creative)
  • Clicks
  • Slot-type frequency (for enforcing daily caps)

Retailer click-throughs

  • If you click a retailer product link that routes through our server, we record that click (no personal information goes to the retailer)

Your Calls, Scores and Recordings

We track and catalog your progress so you can see yourself improve. Here is exactly what that means:

  • Your call audio: when you blow a call into your microphone, it is scored in your browser. The audio is not uploaded to us and we do not keep it. Some practice pages hold your last few takes in the page’s memory so you can replay them; they are gone when you leave the page.
  • Your scores: when you are signed in, the scores from the training camps, the showdowns and Call and Response are saved to your account: the score, the species, the call type and the time. The audio is not part of it.
  • Your progress on this device: hunt progress, XP, badges and practice history are also kept in your browser’s storage, for guests and for offline use. Clearing your browser data removes that copy.
  • Recordings you choose to upload: a recording is kept only when you upload it yourself, for example with the upload tool or when you add a call to a listing. Those files are stored with your account.

How Ad Targeting Works

Ad targeting happens entirely on our servers. Advertisers never see your name, email, or account details. They only see aggregate numbers — impressions served and click-through rates.

We may choose which ad to show you based on:

  • The first three digits of your postal code (zip prefix)
  • Your state
  • Species you’ve declared interest in (e.g., deer, duck, elk)
  • Your skill level
  • Demographic track you’ve selected (if any)

That match happens in our database before the ad is served. The advertiser receives only aggregate CTR and impression counts.

Retailer Click-Throughs

Translator Series is not in any retailer’s affiliate program and has no retail partner (see our Affiliate Disclosure). If you click a retailer product link that routes through our server:

  1. The click routes through our server endpoint /api/partners/:key/click
  2. No affiliate tag is added, because no affiliate relationship exists
  3. You are redirected to the retailer’s site

No personally identifying information is transferred. The retailer sees standard referral traffic, not your identity on our platform.

Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

We work toward compliance with GDPR and CCPA and honor the following rights:

  • Access: Request a full copy of your data via GET /api/profile/me
  • Portability: Your export is returned as JSON you can keep
  • Deletion: Request account and data deletion via DELETE /api/profile (endpoint coming — in the interim, email us)
  • Correction: Edit your profile in your account settings
  • Opt-out of targeted ads: We are adding an in-account toggle; you will still see ads, but they will not be personalized

Cookies & Browser Storage

We do not use third-party cookies. We do use browser localStorage for:

  • Session token (keeps you logged in)
  • Ad session ID (powers daily frequency caps so you don’t see the same ad over and over)
  • Offline log database (lets you record hunts without signal and sync later)
  • Practice progress, scores, XP and badges kept on this device (see “Your Calls, Scores and Recordings”)
  • Accessibility preferences (font size, night mode)

See our Cookie Policy for the full breakdown.

Children (COPPA)

Translator Series is intended for users aged 13 and older. During signup we require your birth year. If the computed age is under 13, the account is rejected with an explanation.

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we ever discover a child account, we purge it. A parent-assisted signup is planned for the future.

Security

Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes. Session tokens are signed with HS256 and expire after 7 days. We use HTTPS for all traffic. No system is perfectly secure — if you suspect account compromise, contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be announced in-product and via email. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
